Set in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall Country close to the Wall itself, all the major Roman forts, such as Vindolanda, Housesteads and Chesters, are within easy reach. As well as the panoramic Northumberland National Park, Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, Hadrian’s Wall Path, Northumberland is steeped in history and rich in heritage.


Known as England’s Border County, Northumberland has more castles, including Alnwick Castle and Garden, than any other county and many fine houses and estates. Close links with early Christianity are present in the ancient abbeys and other important sites such as Holy Island (Lindisfarne).


Newcastle and the whole of Tyneside is just 30 minutes away. You’ll find all the shopping and nightlife you could wish for, the famous MetroCentre, one of Europe’s largest indoor shopping and leisure complexes.


If outdoor activities are your main interest, these abound on the doorstep. Golf, horse-riding or fishing, the area offers some of the finest facilities to be found anywhere in Europe. A short distance away is Kielder Water and Forest, its extensive lake is a flourishing centre for a variety of water sports and there is a great range of activities to be enjoyed, including: mountain biking, horse riding, sculpture and art trail, and ‘star gazers’ observatory.


We are also perfectly sited for visits to the Scottish Borders, England’s Lake District and both east and west coasts, each with its own unique attraction. We are also close to the North Pennines, area of outstanding natural beauty, this area is excellent country for walking, cycling and wildlife-watching. There are many footpaths and bridleways to explore, including the Pennine Way National Trail and the C2C National Cycle Route.
